DFC Progress Continues While Principal Investigator Takes Medical Leave

In July, DataNet Federation Consortium PI Reagan Moore suffered a heart attack while in Colorado at a conference.

Fortunately, Reagan’s prognosis is good. He is staying with family in Colorado Springs and participating in outpatient rehabilitation there. In order to fully concentrate on his recovery, Reagan will not be involved in work-related tasks, including email, for the next few months. We expect him to return to work after the winter holidays.

In the interim, the work of the DFC continues, guided by the strong leadership team and comprehensive plans that were developed when the project began. We continue to achieve our milestones and make progress on our goals even as we look forward to Reagan’s return.  An important innovation developed this year is the ability to create asynchronous federations. This has been used to federate with VIVO, DataONE, external indexing systems, HIVE, and DataVerse.

Many partners, collaborators and colleagues have asked about sending get-well wishes to Reagan, and we can assure you that he appreciates hearing from his many friends around the world. Please feel free to send cards to:

As we learn more about Reagan’s recovery and his plans for returning to work, we will share them via the DFC web site, datafed.org. Anyone with questions is encouraged to contact DFC Project Manager Mary Whitton (whitton@renci.org) or RENCI Director of Communications, Karen Green (kgreen@renci.org).

Best regards,

The DataNet Federation Consortium Interim Management Team
